Scholarships

The goal of GVAHA is to provide the opportunity for all children who want to play hockey to be given the opportunity to play. The Association understands that hockey is a large financial commitment and that some family budgets cannot cover the cost of their child playing hockey.

To apply for the scholarship, please fill out the following application and return it to the Georgetown Ice Center by October 1st, placed in a sealed envelope in the Treasurer’s mailbox.

All applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee for GVAHA and scholarships will be given based strictly on financial need. GVAHA will notify applicants of the results following the November board meeting.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINE: October 1st

Heath Timmer Youth Hockey Endowment Fund

heath timmerHeath Timmer 1993 - 2004

DOB:  4/8/93

Hobbies:  Enjoying his friends, riding bike, rollerblading, basketball, football

BIO:  Heath was an amazing young man who really enjoyed smiling and laughing with his friends.  He truly cared for other people and their feelings.  He tithed by donating money to an organization called World Vision which helps underprivileged children throughout the world.  Whenever someone needed assistance or a friendly smile, Heath was always the first one to offer his help.

Heath was an avid hockey fan/player who dreamed of eventually playing in College and then Professional Hockey.  During Spring Break Heath developed a back up plan.  In a matter of one day he learned to surf and he knew if he couldn't make it in hockey he could always fall back on his surfing skills and be a Professional Surfer.  He was a great athlete who was talented at whatever sport he tried, even though he swung a golf club like a hockey stick.

Heath will be dearly missed.  He was not only a leader, but a friend to all that knew him.  Those that knew him are very thankful for the time that God allowed us to learn from Heath and spend with him.

The Heath Timmer Youth Hockey Endowment Fund was originally established under the West Michigan Hockey Association.  John and Teresa Timmer have requested that the fund be transferred under the umbrella of the Grand Valley Amateur Hockey Association.  GVAHA is honored to be a small part of the remembrance of Heath's life.

This endowment fund is to provide scholarships to help kids that otherwise would not be able to play the sport we so dearly love. The Timmers thought a great deal about this and decided they wanted to establish this fund because that's what Heath would have wanted. Heath lived to play this sport every day. John and Teresa Timmer play an active role with this endowment and the scholarships are available to all kids who want to play hockey. In other words, the purpose of this fund will not be limited to just kids from our association.
